Authorization to purchase three Wausau Home-Safe Snow Plows from Lindco Equipment Sales, as a sole source, in the amount of $30,949.00
PURPOSE:
The Street Maintenance Division is in need of three replacement snow plows for the snow removal operations
BACKGROUND:
In the past five years the City has been purchasing Wausau Home-Safe Snow Plows. These plows have provided outstanding service due to their design. These units utilize trip edge construction with steel cutting blades. The steel blades provide the best in snow removal and reduces the amount of salt required in our snow operation. The other noted feature is the elimination of side height adjustment wheels thus the cutting edge rests directly on the pavement.
Previously, Aurora has purchased many different types of snow plows and most have performed to our expectation. In an effort to gain efficiencies in our snow operation, we are standardizing to the Wausau Home Safe Snow Plows. The last 30 plows that have been purchased are the Wausau Home-Safe model for their performance, durability, and low maintenance.
DISCUSSION:
Lindco Equipment Sales of Merrillville, Indiana is the only Chicagoland authorized Wausau dealer thus a sole source for the Home-Safe Snow Plows. Lindco's Quotation #20140292 for three Wausau Home Safe plow equals $30,949.00. This is a .075 percent increase from last year's order. According to Lindco this is, "due to the fact that the past 2 orders Wausau was able to avoid any increases in pricing," see the attached email.
There are funds in the truck replacement account 215-4460-431.7510 to cover the cost of these plows. A budget transfer will be processed so that the funds are in the proper snow plow account after final City Council approval.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
The purchase of three new plows will reduce the repair accounts for Street Maintenance Division as well as gain efficiencies in their snow removal operations.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
That the City Council adopts a resolution authorizing the purchase of three Wausau Home-Safe Snow Plows from Lindco Equipment Sales, as a sole source, in the amount of $30,949.00.

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and
