Requesting approval to dedicate Sheridan Street between Mountain and Lehnertz as Robert C. Wegman Way on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at 11:00 am.

PURPOSE:

The purpose is to honor Robert (Chic) Wegman for his service to his country and the City of Aurora by dedicating the block on which he grew up and lived until he was 25.

 

BACKGROUND:

Robert C. Wegman was born and raised in Aurora.  After serving in the US Navy during WWII as a Signal Man 3rd Class he returned and founded RC Wegman Construction in 1955 which continues to be family operated.

 

DISCUSSION:

The location of the proposed street dedication is the 600 block of Sheridan between Mountain and Lehnertz. A map is included as an attachment.   The actual ceremony will take place at the corner of Sheridan and Lehnertz. Street closure will be necessary to assure a safe environment.

 

Expected attendance is approximately 75-100 guests.  

 

All associated costs are budgeted from the Special Events Division, budget line item 101-1341-450.50-69.   

 

IMPACT STATEMENT:

Assistance is requested from the Street Department, Sign Shop and Public Information.

Streets: Class III barricades with "No Through Traffic" signs at the following intersections:

*Sheridan and Gates

*Lehnertz and Ohio

*Sheridan and Mountain

6 Class I barricades places at the corners of Sheridan and Lehnertz

All on Friday, June 16 by 9:00 pm.

No Parking signs on Sheridan and Lehnertz on June 16. 

Placement of street signs on street poles and cover for dedication.

Fabrication of street signs "Robert C. Wegman Way".

The area to be swept on June 14 or 15. 

 

RECOMMENDATIONS:

I request the proposed Street Dedication be forwarded to the Government Operations Committee for review and approval and immediately be send to City Council for final approval.
